Gray Whale Census: March 03, 2011

Here we go....All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE !

Gray Whale Census March 03, 2011
Adult Gray Whales:  275
Gray Whale Calves:  101
Total Gray Whales:   376

.....OUR BEST COUNT EVER For Laguna San Ignacio !

Gray Whale Census: Feb. 22, 2011

Here is another count that seems to solidify the fact that the cool waters and abundance of food in the water is really having an effect on the Grey Whale Migration. Not only have I seen large numbers of Grey Whales, but many Humpbacks off shore in the Pacific here in Baja as well as numerous other whales and Pelagic fish. I came across a HUGE schooling phenomena of Mola Mola's or Sun Fish near Mag Bay earlier this year and have NEVER seen this.

Gray Whale Census February 22, 2011
Adult Gray Whales:  216
Gray Whale Calves:  132
Total Gray Whales:   348

Gray Whale Census: Feb. 18, 2011

As expected based on the cooling trend in the water and abundance of food in the Pacific Ocean---a "La Nina" trend.....we are experiencing one of the largest Gray Whale Migrations we have seen on record since 1997 when we began taking census data. This is quite amazing and i can tell you that it is pure eye candy to see so many whales.

Census: Feb. 18, 2011
Adult Gray Whales:  170
Gray Whale Calves:  114
Total Gray Whales:   284

Gray Whale Census February 10, 2011

This is the latest census as of Feb. 10 of 2011. Keep in mind that these census take place in the lagoon and ONLY in the designated whale watching area. The census's do not include whales just out of the area near the mouth of the lagoon. If i were to estimate, I'd say we have another 20-30 whales inside the lagoon near the mouth and another 40-50 on the outside of the mouth.

Census: Feb. 15, 2011
Adult Gray Whales:  122
Gray Whale Calves:   55
Total Gray Whales:   177

Gray Whale Census January 26, 2011

So here's another official census for January 26, 2010. Again looks to be a record setting year for number of Grey Whales at San Ignacio Lagoon.

Census: Jan. 26, 2011 - San Ignacio Lagoon
Adult Gray Whales:  76
Gray Whale Calves:  35
Total Gray Whales:  111

Gray Whale Census January 20, 2011

This is the first official census of the season. And based on the numbers it looks to be one of the BEST seasons for a potentially large migration for this year.

Census: Jan. 20, 2011 - San Ignacio Lagoon
Adult Gray Whales:  41
Gray Whale Calves: 19
Total Gray Whales:  60
